Endocrinology and diabetes board offer new opportunity to join the team

A respected endocrinology and diabetes committee is on the hunt for a new healthcare professional to become the latest member of its team.

The Endocrinology and Diabetes Speciality Certificate Examining Board (SCE) is in need of a new member to assist the chair and medical secretary in the running of the committee.

Being sought out by the association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD), the Society for Endocrinology and the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK, the role is required to ensure that all academic objectives and standards set by the General Medical Council are met.

The successful applicant will also need to attend annual meetings of the board, assist with the development of the SCE, act on the advice of MRCP (UK) Management and Policy Board and Examining Boards, and support MRCP (UK)’s central office on the delivery of examinations.

The organisations are looking for a person who will meet their criteria of:

 ·      Holding an MRCP (UK) or equivalent post graduate diploma

·      Practicing as a specialist in endocrinology and diabetes, and be a member/fellow of one of the three colleges

·      Being registered with a licence to practice and in good standing on the GMC specialist register

·      Actively, or within the last two years, engaged in the training of junior doctors in the UK

·      Being up to date, as appropriate, with relevant national guidelines, CPD requirements, employer’s equality and diversity training and the appraisal process.

It is also an advantage for candidates to meet these criteria, however it is not essential:

·      Experienced within the exam process (question writing group or standard setting group)

·      Have expertise in calcium metabolism, reproductive endocrinology or general diabetes.

Becoming a member of the SCE Board is a non-salaried role, but all reasonable expenses and travel costs will be met by MRCP (UK)’s Central Office in line with the Federation expenses policy.

Healthcare professionals who join the SCE as a member will be provided with valuable skills and experience to aid them in future roles and heighten their status.

Applicants should submit a CV containing their contact details, current position, GMC number and college membership, and a covering letter detailing the individual’s suitability for the role and demonstrating how they meet the eligibility criteria stated above.

This should be submitted by Monday, October 2, to policy.officer@mrcpuk.org, and the successful applicant will be required to attend the next meeting of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Examining Board on October 19 and 20, at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
